Sixth Grade Musuem Trip

Mr. Brucker and Mrs. Harvey organized a sixth grade trip to the Carnegie Museum of Art and Natural History.  This trip was possible due to the Target Education Grant provided through the museum.

The museum educators provided a tour that coincided with Mr. Brucker's Social Studies curriculum.  Integration being the core to student learning.  The students were taken on a guided tour in which they explored different types of art, for example; installation art, sculptures, and paintings. The tour ended in the Hall of Architecture. Here they extended their classroom unit of ancient Roman and Greek architecture.

Our art teacher, Mrs. Harvey, introduced the students to a unique activity at the end of the day, their iPad integration project. Using the Adobe Ideas app (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/adobe-ideas/id364617858?mt=8) the students chose a picture of an ancient sculpture.  They were to add to the sculpture using the paint option in this program to complete a story of a broken statue.  Mrs. Harvey demonstrated how to use the app. The students were to enlarge the sculpture, select a color from the palette that was similar in hue, and apply it to the statue. Some students gave new limbs to these sculptures while other students painted clothes and food.  Imagine a group of twenty students ending their trip to Pittsburgh in the Hall of Architecture surrounded by ancient art, the students worked diligently on their own 21st century art projects.  Very gratifying for all involved.
